Rick Muzzy

Rick Muzzy, a lifelong broadcaster, and owner of Muzzy Broadcasting, was born and raised in Canton, Ohio, graduating from Kent State University.  Rick is a second generation broadcaster who had a great broadcasting mentor in his father Jim Muzzy, known as the Dean of Ohio Sportscasters and Master of Ceremonies for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies in Canton, Ohio for the first twenty-five years.
Rick’s radio broadcast career was launched at WPTW in Piqua starting in 1972 where he began on air, was elected President of the Ohio Sportscasters Association, and entered sales becoming Sr. AE on his career path to station ownership.  Serving community was always important to Rick as he was Charter President of the Piqua Noon Optimist Club and later Lt. Governor of the Optimist Clubs of Ohio while at WPTW.
In 1979 Rick was ready to move on his career path and joined one of Americas top Television Companies, Storer Communications owner of top TV stations in many major markets in TV sales.  After learning the TV business Rick moved on to Boston as a General Sales Manager for one of America’s most respected Radio Broadcasting Companies, Katz Broadcasting, part of Katz Communications, an employee owned company.  Rick made one more stop on his career path to station ownership when he moved west to become General Manager of a Colorado Springs Radio Station in 1986.
In 1988 Rick realized a lifetime dream to own his own Broadcast Company as he purchased four radio stations, an AM/FM in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and an AM/FM in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.  1995 saw the addition of a Wausau, Wisconsin FM station and the sale of the two Eau Claire stations.  In 2011 Rick added another FM to the Central Wisconsin cluster to give Rick a company total of 3 FM’s and 1 AM.
In October of  2012 Rick learned that WPTW was for sale and targeted to go off the air for good.  Rick felt this was his opportunity to give back to all the wonderful people of the Upper Miami Valley who encouraged Rick to reach for the top in this wonderful business.  Rick is so pleased he stepped forward and gave WPTW new life.  The response from everyone has been overwhelming.
The philosophy that has served Rick well through his whole career starting I  Piqua is do the Right Thing, do the Best You Can, and Show People You Care.
The company mission statement for Muzzy Broadcasting is what Rick lives by in business…”Locally Owned, Community Involved and Committed to Our Client’s Success”
Rick is proud to be the caretaker of WPTW and when he is on the air gets to play his favorite hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s on his morning show “Rick and Friends”.  Besides broadcasting Rick has a passion for his family, the great outdoors and a sport they call golf.
