COVID Death in Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH REPORTS THE COUNTY HAS RECORDED ITS

FIRST COVID-19 DEATH SINCE THE END OF JUNE. CASES OF THE CORONA VIRUS

IN THE COUNTY CONTINUE TO RISE, WITH 27 NEW CASES REPORTED SINCE JULY

17. IN PIQUA, 9 RESIDENTS HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR THE VIRUS. IN SHELBY

COUNTY, EIGHT NEW CASES OF COVID-19 WERE REPORTED OVER THE

WEEKEND, AND FOUR ADDITIONAL CASES AS OF TUESDAY.


Troy Schools Propose Delayed Start

TROY CITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS MEET TONIGHT TO

CONSIDER A PROPOSAL BY SUPERINTENDENT CHRIS PIPER TO OPEN SCHOOLS

ON SEPTEMBER 8, RATHER THAN AUGUST 19. THE LATER START DATE WILL

ALLOW FOR STAFF TO BE TRAINED ON THE SAFETY PROCEDURES TO KEEP

THEMSELVES AND STUDENTS SAFE FROM COVID-19. ONE SAFETY PROCEDURE

WOULD REQUIRE STAFF AND STUDENTS TAKE THEIR TEMPERATURES AT HOME

BEFORE EVERY SCHOOL DAY. ANYONE WITH A TEMPERATURE ABOVE 100

DEGREES MUST STAY HOME AND RETURN ONLY AFTER 3 DAYS WITHOUT A

FEVER.


Electrical Issues Cause Sidney Fire

A HOUSE FIRE IN SIDNEY IS BLAMED ON ELECTRICAL ISSUES CONNECTED TO A

WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER. FIRE CREWS FOUND SMOKE AND FIRE COMING

FROM A SECOND FLOOR WINOW UPON THEIR ARRIVAL AT A TWO-STORY

DUPLEX IN THE 400-BLOCK OF NORTH MIAMI AVENUE. THE RED CROSS IS

ASSISTING SEVERAL OF THE RESIDENTS…THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE

OCCUPANTS OR FIREFIGHTERS. WE HAVE NO WORD ON THE AMOUNT OF

DAMAGE.


Shelby County Junior Fair Pre-Judging Underway

PRE-JUDGING FOR THE SHELBY COUNTY JUNIOR FAIR BEGAN THIS WEEK. THIS

YEAR’S SHELBY COUNTY FAIR ONLY CONSISTS OF JUNIOR FAIR ACTIVITIES. ONLY

PEOPLE ASSOCIATED WITH THE JUNIOR FAIR ARE PERMITTED ON THE

FAIRGROUNDS. ANIMALS AND 4-H PROJECTS ARE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED

FROM THE FAIRGROUNDS AFTER JUDGING. THE SHELBY COUNTY HEALTH

DEPARTMENT IS HELPING TO ENSURE SAFETY GUIDELINES ARE FOLLOWED TO

PROTECT AGAINST SPREADING COVID-19.


Tippy City Grants Awarded

THE TIPP CITY FOUNDATION HAS AWARDED FOUR GRANTS TOTALING

$16,500. THE GRANTS WILL GO TO PROJECTS PROPOSED BY THOSE INVOLVED

IN ARTS AND CULTURE, RECREATION, SOCIAL SERVICES AND HEALTH.


Garber Drive Closed

GARBER DRIVE IN TIPP CITY IS CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC STARTING

FOR A CULVERT REPLACEMENT PROJECT. GARBER DRIVE IS CLOSED BETWEEN

KISER AND WARNER DRIVES. THE PROJECT SHOULD BE COMPLETE IN ABOUT 40

DAYS. A DETOUR IS POSTED..


Troy Refreshment Area Proposed

THE APPLICATION FOR THE PROPOSED DESIGNATED OUTDOOR REFRESHMENT

AREA FOR DOWNTOWN TROY IS ABOUT HALF THE SIZE OF THE PROPOSAL

DISCUSSED EARLIER WITH COUNCIL AND MIAMI COUNTY COMMISSIONERS. THE APPLICATION REQUESTS APPROVAL FOR 21 ACRES VERSUS THE ORIGINALLY DISCUSSED 41 ACRES. TROY CITY COUNCIL WILL HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE REQUEST AUG. 3.
