OHSAA Suspending Scrimmages

THE OHIO HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION IS NOW SUSPENDING SCRIMMAGES FOR CONTACT SPORTS, WHICH INCLUDES FOOTBALL, SOCCER, AND FIELD HOCKEY.DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. A SPOKESPERSON SAID THEY ARE WAITING FOR MORE GUIDANCE FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE AND DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ON WHEN SCHOOL VERSUS SCHOOL COMPETITION CAN BEGIN AND ARE HOPEFUL OF THAT PERMISSION BEING GRANTED FOR NORMAL CONTEST DATES LATER IN AUGUST.


Fairs Limited to Junior Competitions

THE DECISION TO HOLD A JUNIOR FAIR ONLY IN SHELBY COUNTY WAS MADE MONTHS AGO. ON TUESDAY, GOVERNOR MIKE DEWINE ANNOUNCED EFFECTIVE FRIDAY, JULY 31ST, ONLY JUNIOR FAIRS WILL BE HELD IN COUNTIES THROUGHOUT OHIO WHO HAVEN’T HOSTED THEIR FAIR ALREADY. OTHER COUNTIES WHO HAD PLANNED FULL FAIRS ARE MIAMI, DARKE AND CHAMPAIGN COUNTIES. SHELBY COUNTY FAIR BOARD PRESIDENT ERIC GARBER SAID DEWINE’S DECISION TO CLOSE THE SENIOR FAIRS DIDN’T COME AS A SHOCK TO HIM OR OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SHELBY COUNTY FAIR BOARD.

Miami County Hires Children's Services Administrator

MIAMI COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE HIRED ABRAM DEWEESE AS THE LOCAL CHILDREN’S SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF JOB AND FAMILY SERVICES. THE ADMINISTRATOR POSITION WAS CREATED AFTER THE MERGER LAST SUMMER OF JOB AND FAMILY SERVICES AND CHILDREN’S SERVICES. THE CHANGE FOLLOWED THE CONVICTION OF JUNE CANNON OF BEAVERCREEK, LONG TIME COUNTY CHILDREN’S SERVICES DIRECTOR, FOR THEFT IN OFFICE AND TAMPERING WITH RECORDS.

Back to School Supply Drive in Troy

THE LINCOLN COMMUNITY CENTER IN TROY IS HOLDING A BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE. BEING COLLECTED ARE BOOK BAGS, INDEX CARDS, GLUE STICKS, HAND SANITIZER, PROTRACTORS, RULERS AND OTHER SCHOOL SUPPLIES. THE COLLECTION IS UNDERWAY THROUGH AUGUST 3RD AT THE LINCOLN CENTER, 110 ASH STREET IN TROY.
