Robbery Suspect Arrested

An arrest has been made in connection with a Tuesday morning robbery in Piqua. After reviewing store security footage from the Piqua Food Mart at South Street and McKinley Avenue, an officer believed he knew the suspect to be 36-year old Seth Wiley of Piqua. A warrant was obtained to search Wiley’s Cottage Street residence. Based on evidence and subsequent interviews, Wiley was arrested. He entered pleas of not guilty to charges of robbery, criminal trespass and driving under a suspended driver’s license during arraignment in Miami County Municipal Court. His cash bond totaled $11,500.

9 Year Old Child Injured By Horses

In Darke County, a 9-year old child was run over by two horses outside Hollansburg…It happened Tuesday afternoon in the vicinity of the 300 block of Weaver-Fort Jefferson Road…No other information was immediately available except that the child was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center..

West Milton To Offer Municipal Trash Collection

West Milton Village Council is moving forward to offer municipal trash pick-up. With the contract with Waste Management ending December 31, council authorized the pre-order of two trash collection trucks. Also ordered are 2000 trash totes at a cost of over a half-million dollars. The contract with Waste Management could be extended on a month-to-month basis, should the village not be ready to go by January.

Body Recovered Following Boating Accident

The body of a 71-year old Englewood was recovered from Great Miami River early Wednesday afternoon near Tipp City. It was Tuesday evening when the Larry Bolden and two other people ended up in the river after their small boat capsized on the river between Ross Road and State Route 571. Two people with Bolden were able to reach shore on their own. Searchers combed for the missing man until dark on Tuesday. Recovery efforts resumed the next morning..

Greenville Teen Struck By Car

A 15-year old boy, attempting to cross a Greenville street on a skateboard, was struck by an SUV late Tuesday afternoon. It happened on North Ohio Street near the entrance to Alice Bish Park. The teen was flown by Careflight to Dayton Children’s Hospital with what are described as serious, life-threatening injuries.

Military-Drill Fundraiser In West Milton

The Miami Valley Young Marines will host a special military-drill fundraiser for the West Milton Veterans’ Memorial on Saturday (Sept 12) at West Milton Park. The fundraiser, Drill Heroes: Knockout Drill for a Cause, allows participants to compete in military drills for charity.

Meet The Candidates

Because of COVID-19, a virtual meet the candidates forum will be held on October 14 and will originate from the Piqua Y-W-C-A. The program will begin promptly at 7:30pm. The public will be able to view the event through Facebook live and listen on WPTW at 98.1 FM or 1570 AM. Candidates and issues of interest to people in both Piqua and Troy will be covered.

Seed Pods Being Collected

It’s time once again for milkweed seed pods to be collected for the Ohio Pollinator Habitat Initiative. Milkweed is the only host plant for the Monarch butterfly. The Shelby Soil and Water Conservation District will collect the pods now through October 30. Place the seed pods into paper bags and drop them into a collection bin at the office on Fair Road in Sidney. Wear a face covering when entering the building.
