Troy Business Applies for New Program

A FRENCH COMPANY, OPERATING TROY LAMINATING AND COATING, HAS APPLIED FOR THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INCENTIVE PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM, ESTABLISHED EARLIER THIS YEAR, PROVIDES PAYROLL INCOME REBATES FOR COMPANIES CREATING NEW EMPLOYEES. TROY LAMINATING HAS INDICATED IT INTENDS TO BRING OVER 400 NEW JOBS TO THE CITY. THE REQUEST IS CONSIDERED EMERGENCY LEGISLATION TO BE REVIEWED AT THE NEXT COUNCIL MEETING.


4H Alumni Reunion Cancelled

THE MIAMI COUNTY 4-H ALUMNI REUNION HAS BEEN CANCELED FOR THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO HELP PLAN FOR THE 2021 REUNION AT THE MIAMI COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS ARE ASKED TO CONTACT A MEMBER OF THE REUNION COMMITTEE.


Semi-Tractor Involved in Crash

IN SHELBY COUNTY, A SEMI TRACTOR TRAILER AND CAR WERE INVOLVED IN A CRASH SUNDAY NIGHT, JULY 26, ON I-75 JUST SOUTH OF EXIT 92. THE DRIVERS OF THE CAR AND THE SEMI HAD NON LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES AFTER THEIR VEHICLES ENDED UP IN THE MEDIAN. THE SEMI’S TRAILER WAS RIPPED OPEN BY THE GUARDRAIL, SPILLING ITS CARGO OF MICROWAVABLE POTATOES. THE MISHAP REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.


Piqua Fire Causes Home Damage

FIRE IN PIQUA SUNDAY AFTERNOON CAUSED HEAVY DAMAGE TO A HOME IN THE 400 BLOCK OF RIVERSIDE DRIVE. CREWS ARRIVING ON THE SCENE REPORTED SMOKE AND FLAMES COMING FROM THE KITCHEN. THE MAJORITY OF FIRE DAMAGE WAS CONFINED TO THE KITCHEN AREA BUT ALSO EXTENDED INTO THE UPSTAIRS OF THE TWO-STORY FRAME HOME…FOOD LEFT ON THE STOVE IS BLAMED FOR THE FIRE. THE LONE OCCUPANT WAS TREATED FOR MINOR INJURIES SUSTAINED IN THE FIRE.


Laura Man Injured in Crash

A LAURA MAN WAS INJURED AFTER BEING REAR-ENDED SUNDAY ON STATE ROUTE 49 AT U-S ROUTE 127 IN DARKE COUNTY. 62-YEAR OLD JOHN DICKENS WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC TO MAKE A TURN WHEN HE WAS STRUCK. HIS PASSENGER, 61-YEAR OLD GAIL DICKENS, WAS TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO BE FREED BY MECHANICAL MEANS. THE DICKENS WERE TAKEN BY GREENVILLE TOWNSHIP RESCUE TO WAYNE HEALTH CARE. THE JUVENILE DRIVER WAS TREATED AND RELEASED AT THE SCENE. THE ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.


Tipp City Buggy Whip Building Notified

TIPP CITY HAS NOTIFIED THE OWNER OF THE 1880S BUGGY WHIP BUILDING ON EAST MAIN STREET TO SUBMIT PLANS FOR THE BUILDING WITHIN 30 DAYS. THE PLAN REQUIRES MAKING THE BUILDING STRUCTURALLY SOUND AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL BUILDING CODES. THERE WAS A PARTIAL COLLAPSE OF THE FIRST FLOOR OF THE VACANT BUILDING IN IN LATE JUNE. ENGINEERS SAY THE BUILDING COULD BE REPAIRED.


Careflight Needed in Darke Crash

CAREFLIGHT WAS CALLED SUNDAY MORNING FOLLOWING A CRASH NEAR NEW MADISON. DARKE COUNTY DEPUTIES SAY 19-YEAR OLD MARK KIRBY OF NEW MADISON RAN OFF STATE ROUTE 726 AT OTTERBEIN-ITHACA ROAD. HIS PICKUP TRUCK ROLLED OVER INJURING PASSENGER 13-YEAR OLD JARED MATHEWS, ALSO OF NEW MADISON. MATHEWS WAS FLOWN TO MIAMI VALLEY HOSPITAL IN UNKNOWN CONDITION. KIRBY WAS TREATED FOR MINOR INJURIES AT THE SCENE AND RELEASED.


Shelby County Restoring Old Jail

SHELBY COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE ACCEPTED A PROPOSAL FROM BRIAN BROTHERS PAINTING & RESTORATION TO FURNISH PAINTING AND REPAIRS TO THE EXTERIOR OF THE OLD JAIL. THE TOTAL COST OF THE PROJECT IS JUST UNDER $34,000. COMMISSIONERS ALSO AUTHORIZED ADVERTISING FOR BIDS FOR THE COUNTY’S HIGHWAY PAINT STRIPING PROGRAM.
