Schools Report COVID-19 Cases

Several Miami County schools have identified COVID-19 cases within their districts. A student or staff person has been identified with COVID-19 at LT Ball Intermediate School and Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City. In Troy, at least one confirmed case of COVID-19 is reported in a student or staff person at Troy Junior High. Cleaning and disinfecting of all of the exposed locations has been completed. Both districts are working closely with Miami County Public Health.

County's COVID-19 Numbers

In Miami County, as of Monday there have been 1,259 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 123 hospitalizations and 48 deaths. 980 are presumed to have recovered.

Meeting Rescheduled

Citing a lack of business, tonight’s Piqua City Commission meeting has been canceled. The next commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. Because of the pandemic, commission meetings are being held via Zoom and YouTube.

Celebration Cancelled

The Piqua Police Department has announced its decision to cancel the 2020 National Night Out celebration. In Piqua, National Night Out is usually held on the first Tuesday in August. But was postponed until October. It was then decided to cancel the event because even with social distancing and wearing a face mask, safety couldn’t be assured. The Piqua Night Out celebration is expected to return in August 2021.

Live Concert Event

Christian recording artists Big Daddy Weave and Zach Williams will be holding a live concert at Sidney’s Auto-Vue drive-in on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Williams has a Grammy and two Dove Awards to his credit. Tickets are $100 per vehicle for up to six people and are sold by the car load.

Darke County Barn Fire

Multiple departments responded to a barn fire early Monday on Folkerth Road on the outskirts of Greenville. The fire is believed to have started at the rear of the building before consuming the entire structure. An additional outbuilding used to store hay and cattle was also destroyed in the 3-alarm blaze.

Culvert Replacement Begins

The Shelby County Highway Department will begin a culvert replacement project on Newport Road tomorrow (Sept 16). County Engineer Bob Geuy says Newport Road will be closed to all traffic between State Route 66 and State Route 47 for at last three weeks.

Lucky Lemonade Concert

This evening’s Lucky Lemonade Concert at the Hayner Cultural Center in Troy features Blue Moon Soup from Yellow Springs. The group is a well-established acoustic folk quartet. The concert is being broadcast on the Hayner Faceook page at 6:30pm.
