Piqua Health Department Gives COVID Warnings

THE PIQUA HEALTH DEPARTMENT REMINDS RESIDENTS TO REMAIN VIGILANT

IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE CORONAVIRUS. THE CITY OF PIQUA HAS

EXPERIENCED RELATIVELY LOW OCCURRENCES OF THE DISEASE FOR MONTHS,

HOWEVER, THINGS ARE BEGINNING TO CHANGE. LAST WEEK 9 PIQUA

RESIDENTS TESTED POSITIVE FOR THE VIRUS. AMY WELKER, DIRECTOR OF

HEALTH & SANITATION, SAYS PREVIOUSLY THE AVERAGE WAS ABOUT 2 CASES

PER WEEK.


Darke County Crash Ends in Hospitalizations

IN DARKE COUNTY, A TWO-CAR CRASH SENT ONE OF THE DRIVERS TO THE

HOSPITAL. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON STATE ROUTE 118 AT CHILDREN'S

HOME-BRADFORD ROAD, SENDING ONE OF THE VEHICLES OFF THE ROADWAY

AND DOWN AN EMBANKMENT. A MALE DRIVER WAS EXTRICATED FROM HIS

CAR AND TAKEN TO WAYNE HEALTHCARE FOR TREATMENT OF NON LIFE-

THREATENING INJURIES. THE OTHER DRIVER, A FEMALE, WAS EXAMINED ON

THE SCENE BY EMS, BUT REFUSED FURTHER TREATMENT. THE ACCIDENT

REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.


Miami County Creating Election Plans

MIAMI COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICIALS HAVE BEGUN DISCUSSIONS ON

PLANNING FOR THE NOVEMBER 3 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, INCLUDING

WHETHER VOTERS GOING TO THE COURTHOUSE FOR EARLY VOTING WOULD

NEED TO GO THROUGH THE BUILDING SECURITY CHECKPOINT. THE ABILITY TO

MOVE EARLY VOTERS IN AND OUT OF THE BUILDING IF SOCIAL DISTANCING

REQUIREMENTS REMAIN IN PLACE ALSO WAS DISCUSSED. IT WAS DECIDED

THAT PROCEDURES BE DISCUSSED WITH SHERIFF DAVE DUCHAK BEFORE THE COMMISSION DECIDES WHETHER TO ALLOW AN ELECTIONS OFFICE PLAN THAT

WOULD USE A SOUTH COURTHOUSE DOOR FOR VOTERS.


Milton-Union Schools Mandate Masks

SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS FOR MILTON-UNION EXEMPTED VILLAGE

SCHOOLS, HAVE VOTED TO REQUIRE STUDENTS AND STAFF TO WEAR FACE

COVERINGS WHEN SCHOOL STARTS. THE RE-OPENING PLAN FOR MILTON-

UNION CALLS TO START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH IN-PERSON CLASSES ON A

TRADITIONAL FIVE-DAY SCHEDULE BEGINNING TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8.


Shelby County Fair Pre-Judging Begins

PRE-JUDGING FOR THE BARE-BONES 2020 SHELBY COUNTY JUNIOR FAIR

BEGAN THIS WEEK. THIS YEAR’S SHELBY COUNTY FAIR WILL ONLY CONSIST OF

JUNIOR FAIR ACTIVITIES. ONLY PEOPLE ASSOCIATED WITH THE JUNIOR FAIR

ARE PERMITTED ON THE FAIRGROUNDS. ANIMALS AND 4-H PROJECTS ARE

IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM THE FAIRGROUNDS AFTER JUDGING. THE

SHELBY COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT IS HELPING TO ENSURE SAFETY

GUIDELINES ARE FOLLOWED TO PROTECT AGAINST SPREADING COVID-19.


Miami County Commissioners Accept Grant

MIAMI COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE ACCEPTED A GRANT FROM THE OHIO

PUBLIC WORKS COMMISSION TO FUND A BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT. THE

GRANT IS IN THE AMOUNT OF $300,000 AND WILL BE USED TOWARD

REPLACEMENT OF A BRIDGE ON TROY-URBANA ROAD IN LOST CREEK

TOWNSHIP. THE PROJECT INCLUDES LOCAL FUNDS OF 150-THOUSAND

DOLLARS. CONSTRUCTION BIDS FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BRIDGE ARE

STILL UNDER REVIEW.


Rockin' River Duck Drop Announced

MAIN STREET PIQUA’S SIXTH ANNUAL ROCKIN’ RIVER DUCK DROP IS SET FOR

SATURDAY, AUGUST 15 AT LOCK 9 PARK IN DOWNTOWN PIQUA. HUNDREDS

OF BRIGHT YELLOW DUCKS WILL BE RELEASED INTO THE MIAMI RIVER EAST OF LOCK 9 PARK. THE FIRST THREE DUCKS TO THE FINISH LINE, AND THE LAST PLACE DUCK, WILL RECEIVE CASH AND MERCHANDISE PRIZES VALUED AT OVER $2,000. THE RUBBER DUCKIES ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. ADOPTION FORMS CAN BE PICKED UP AT READMORE'S HALLMARK AND APPLE TREE GALLERY. ALL THE PROCEEDS FROM THE DUCK ADOPTIONS WILL BENEFIT MAIN STREET PIQUA AND EFFORTS OF PROMOTING AND ENHANCING DOWNTOWN PIQUA.

GRANT TO BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF SHELBY & DARKE COUNTY. BIG

BROTHERS BIG SISTERS IS DESIGNED TO CREATE AND SUPPORT ONE TO ONE

MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS THAT IGNITE THE POWER AND PROMISE OF

YOUTH. THE HARRY D. STEPHENS MEMORIAL TRUST FUND BEGAN IN

1990. OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS, THE TRUST HAS DISTRIBUTED OVER $1.8

MILLION.
