Ohio Limits County Fairs

GOVERNOR MIKE DEWINE IS LIMITING THE REST OF OHIO’S COUNTY FAIRS TO BE JUNIOR FAIR ONLY EVENTS. HE SAYS A NUMBER OF FAIRS ARE NOT FOLLOWING SAFETY GUIDELINES AND AN OUTBREAK OF CASES HAVE BEEN TRACED BACK TO A COUNTY FAIR. THE ORDER GOES INTO EFFECT ON FRIDAY, JULY 31. THE MIAMI COUNTY FAIR IS SET TO BEGIN ON AUGUST 14 AND THE GREAT DARKE COUNTY FAIR ON AUGUST 21.


Shelby County Junior Fair Continues

IN SHELBY COUNTY, THE JUNIOR FAIR CONTINUES THROUGH TOMORROW. BECAUSE ONLY THE FAMILIES OR PEOPLE DIRECTLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE JUNIOR FAIR ARE ALLOWED ONTO THE SHELBY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS, ONLOOKERS IN THE STANDS HAVE BEEN SPARSE.


Major Manufacturer Moving to Troy

PELLA CORPORATION, A WINDOW AND DOOR DESIGNER AND MANUFACTURER, HAS SELECTED TROY FOR A NEW MANUFACTURING FACILITY. PELLA WILL OCCUPY AN EXISTING 324,000 SQUARE FOOT SPACE ON EXPERIMENT FARM ROAD AND CREATE 428 NEW JOBS WHEN FULLY OPERATIONAL BY THE YEAR 2025.


New Jobs Coming to Troy

MEANWHILE, TROY LAMINATING AND COATING INTENDS TO BRING IN OVER 400 NEW JOBS TO TROY, PENDING APPROVAL OF AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INCENTIVE PROGRAM FOR COMPANIES CREATING NEW EMPLOYEES. CONSIDERED TO BE EMERGENCY LEGISLATION, THE REQUEST WILL BE REVIEWED AT THE NEXT TROY CITY COUNCIL MEETING.


Piqua Holding Virtual Commission Meeting

PIQUA CITY COMMISSIONERS WILL HOLD A SPECIAL VIRTUAL MEETING AND EXECUTIVE SESSION ON THIS EVENING, JULY 29th, AT 6 P.M. THEY’LL DISCUSS AND REVIEW NEGOTIATIONS ON COMPENSATION OR OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR CITY PERSONNEL. THE PIQUA CITY COMMISSION MEETING WILL NOT BE OPEN TO PUBLIC, BUT WILL BE STREAMED LIVE ON THE CITY OF PIQUA’S YOU TUBE CHANNEL. THE NEXT REGULAR PIQUA CITY COMMISSION MEETING WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, AUG. 18.


Early Voting Plans Approved

MIAMI COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE APPROVED A PLAN FROM THE MIAMI COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS TO USE THE FORMER OSU EXTENSION OFFICE SPACE AT THE MIAMI COUNTY COURTHOUSE AND TO OPEN ADDITIONAL DOORS TO THE COURTHOUSE FOR EARLY VOTING. ENTRANCE TO THE EARLY VOTING CENTER WILL BE THE SOUTH DOORS, FACING MAIN STREET. OFF-DUTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES WILL ASSIST WITH SECURITY AFTER THE REST OF THE COURTHOUSE CLOSES AT 4 P.M., AS WELL AS DURING WEEKEND EARLY VOTING HOURS.


West Milton Officer Arraigned

ARRAIGNMENT WAS HELD THIS WEEK FOR A FORMER WEST MILTON POLICE OFFICER ON A NEW CHARGE. THE UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT DATABASE. 33 YEAR OLD KEVIN WRIGHT OF WEST MILTON IS ALREADY ON UNPAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE AFTER PLEADING NOT GUILTY TO THE RAPE OF A 12-YEAR OLD GIRL. A JURY TRIAL HAS BEEN SET FOR AUG. 17, BUT WILL LIKELY BE CONTINUED.


Cyclist Hit By Semi in Sidney

SIDNEY POLICE SAY A 20-YEAR OLD LOCAL WOMAN WAS HIT BY A SEMI WHILE RIDING ON STATE ROUTE 47 TUESDAY MORNING. THE CYCLIST, IDENTIFIED AS JACQULYANN NORTH WAS TAKEN TO WILSON HEALTH, THEN FLOWN BY CAREFLIGHT TO MIAMI VALLEY HOSPITAL. VIDEO OBTAINED FROM A LOCAL BUSINESS SHOWS NORTH WAS STRUCK BY A WESTBOUND SEMI TRACTOR-TRAILER. THE SEMI LEFT THE AREA AND HAS YET TO BE LOCATED. Troy Schools Seeking Increased Earned Income Tax

TROY CITY SCHOOLS WILL ASK VOTERS TO APPROVE AN INCREASE IN THE DISTRICT’S EARNED SCHOOL INCOME TAX IN NOVEMBER TO HELP PAY FOR RISING COSTS. THE BOARD VOTED TO ASK THE STATE TAXATION DEPARTMENT TO CERTIFY THE AMOUNT OF INCOME TAX NEEDED TO GENERATE AROUND $2 MILLION A YEAR. THE AMOUNT WAS ESTIMATED AT A QUARTER PERCENT. THE CURRENT DISTRICT EARNED INCOME TAX IS 1.5%. THE EXTRA MONEY IS NEEDED TO HELP PAY FOR EXPENSES INCURRED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
