Pitsenbarger Joins Walk of Fame

PIQUA NATIVE AND MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT, WILLIAM PITSENBARGER,

WILL BE INDUCTED POSTUMOUSLY INTO THE DAYTON REGION’S WALK OF

FAME THIS YEAR. PITSENBARGER LOST HIS LIFE DURING HERIOIC EFFORTS

DURING A BATTLE IN THE VIETNAM WAR IN 1966. A MOVIE ABOUT

PITSENBARGER WAS RELEASED EARLIER THIS YEAR. BECAUSE OF THE COVID-19

PANDEMIC, THE INDUCTION CEREMONY ALONG WEST THIRD STREET IN

DAYTON HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL OCTOBER.


Three Alarm Fire in Castine

A THREE-ALARM FIRE LEFT A LARGE BARN IN RUINS ON U-S ROUTE 127 NEAR

CASTINE. WITH A COORDINATED EFFORT, INVOLVING NEARLY 15

DEPARTMENTS ACROSS TWO COUNTIES, CREWS WERE ABLE TO DOUSE THE

BLAZE AND BRING IT UNDER CONTROL. VINYL SIDING ON A NEARBY HOUSE

MELTED FROM THE EXPOSURE TO THE EXTREME HEAT GENERATED BY THE

FIRE. NO WORD ON THE CAUSE. IN ADDITION TO THE BARN, TWO HOPPER

WAGONS WERE DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES..

BISTRO, IS OWNED AND OPERATED BY PIQUA NATIVE TOMMY McCOY. A SOFT-

OPENING WAS HELD LAST WEEK AND THE OWNER SAYS HE’S REALLY HAPPY

ABOUT THE SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITY.


Three Alarm Fire in Greenville

MULTIPLE FIRE DEPARTMENTS RESPONDED TO A THREE-ALARM FIRE SUNDAY

AFTERNOON NORTHWEST OF GREENVILLE. FIRST CREWS ARRIVING ON THE

SCENE ALONG STATE ROUTE 49 REPORTED HEAVY SMOKE AND FLAMES

SHOOTING FROM THE COMBINATION BARN AND WORKSHOP. FIREFIGHTERS

WERE ABLE TO SAVE A FEW CLASSIC CARS STORED IN THE BUILDING. NO WORD

ON THE CAUSE.


Burglary Suspect Being Held

A MAN CONSIDERED A SUSPECT IN A NUMBER OF BURGLARIES IN MIAMI,

MONTGOMERY AND DARKE COUNTIES IS BEING HELD IN CLARK COUNTY. 35-

YEAR OLD MICHAEL KLEISMIT OF VERNONA WAS OUT ON BOND AFTER

PREVIOUSLY BEING ARRESTED FOR SIMILAR CRIMES IN NEWTON TOWNSHIP IN

FEBRUARY. KLEISMIT IS SUSPECTED OF SEVERAL THEFTS IN UNION TOWNSHIP

ON JUNE 15. DEPUTIES WILL BE PRESENTING THOSE CASES TO A MIAMI

COUNTY GRAND JURY.


Tipp City Planning on Downtown Refreshment

TIPP CITY COUNCIL IS CONSIDERING ESTABLISHING A DESIGNATED OUTDOOR

REFRESHMENT AREA FOR ITS DOWNTOWN AREA. COUNCIL IS EXPECTED TO

VOTE ON THE PROPOSAL LATER THIS SUMMER. AND THE CITY OF TROY MAY

FOLLOW SUIT. JIM DAVIS, OF THE CITY OF TROY’S PLANNING AND ZONING

DEPARTMENT, MET WITH THE MIAMI COUNTY COMMISSION FOR THEIR

INPUT. FOR THE MOST PART, COMMISSIONERS SEEMED RECEPTIVE, BUT THEY

EXPRESSED CONCERNS ABOUT THE COURTHOUSE PLAZA BEING WITHIN THE

BOUNDARIES.


UVMC President Retiring

THE PRESIDENT OF UPPER VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER PLANS TO RETIRE AT THE

END OF THE MONTH. TOM PARKER STARTED OUT IN THE MIAMI COUNTY

PROBATE COURT SYSTEM IN 1980 BEFORE MOVING INTO THE MEDICAL

FIELD. HE OVERSAW BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES AT THE HOSPITAL IN 1992

MOVING UP THROUGH KEY LEADERSHIP ROLES AT UPPER VALLEY MEDICAL

CENTER TO BECOME CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE. HIS

SUCCESSOR WILL BE NAMED IN THE COMING WEEKS.


Alcohol Suspected in Police Chase

ALCOHOL IS SUSPECTED TO BE A FACTOR FOLLOWING A POLICE CHASE LAST

WEEK THAT BEGAN AS AN ATTEMPTED TRAFFIC STOP IN UNION CITY,

INDIANA. THE CHASE ENDED AFTER THE PURSUED VEHICLE CROSSED THE STATE

LINE AND CRASHED INTO PARKED CARS ON EAST OAK STREET IN UNION CITY,

OHIO. THE DRIVER, IDENTIFIED AS THOMAS TUTTERROW OF FARMLAND,

INDIANA, WAS FLOWN BY CAREFLIGHT TO MIAMI VALLEY HOSPITAL WITH

SERIOUS INJURIES.
