$6 Million Dollar Deal in Treasure Island Contamination

THE U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY HAS A $6 MILLION PLAN

DEAL WITH A CONTAMINATED AQUIFER SITE NEAR THE TREASURE ISLAND PARK

AND THE GREAT MIAMI RIVER. EPA DOCUMENTS INDICATE THE

CONTAMINATION WAS FIRST DETECTED IN 1986, AND THE SOURCE LOCATED

BENEATH TWO FORMER AUTO DEALERSHIPS AND AUTO REPAIR BUSINESSES ON

WEST ELM STREET. THE SITE WAS PLACED ON THE SUPERFUND NATIONAL

PRIORITIES LIST IN 2012.

A BUS SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE TO COLLECT SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND DISTRIBUTE

THEM TO ALL DARKE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR STUDENTS IN

NEED. COLLECTION DAY IS FRIDAY, JULY 31 FROM 9 A.M. TO 4 P.M. AT THE

BUFFALO WILD WINGS PARKING LOT IN GREENVILLE. LAST YEAR A LITTLE OVER

73-HUNDRED DOLLARS WORTH OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES WAS COLLECTED. THIS

YEAR THE GOAL IS TO COLLECT 10-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN SUPPLIES.


Miami County Riverside Seeking Tax Levy

THE MIAMI COUNTY BOARD OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, ALSO KNOWN

AS RIVERSIDE OF MIAMI COUNTY, WILL ASK VOTERS TO RENEW A 2.5-MILL LEVY

FOR FIVE YEARS IN NOVEMBER. COUNTY COMMISSIONERS DECLARED INTENT

TO LEVY THE TAX AND TO ASK THE COUNTY AUDITOR TO CERTIFY THE AMOUNT

THE LEVY WOULD GENERATE FOR THE ORGANIZATION.

RAN OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A UTILITY POLE BEFORE SHE HIT A TREE HEAD-

ON. DEPUTIES SAY THEY FOUND AN OPEN CONTAINER IN THE VEHICLE.


Piqua City Schools Accepting Kindergarten Enrollment

PIQUA CITY SCHOOLS IS NOW ACCEPTING ENROLLMENT FOR KINDERGARTEN

GEARHARDT SAYS ENROLLMENT MUST BE COMPLETED BY A PARENT OR

GUARDIAN WHO RESIDES WITHIN THE PIQUA CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND MUST

BE COMPLETED ON A LAPTOP DESKTOP OR TABLET; IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE

WITH A SMARTPHONE. STUDENTS MUST BE 5 YEARS OLD BY AUG. 1. FOR

Troy Apartment Rezoning Approved

REZONING FOR AN APARTMENT COMPLEX IN TROY WAS APPROVED BY THE

CITY’S PLANNING COMMISSION. THE ISSUE NOW GOES TO TROY CITY COUNCIL

FOR REVIEW. THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT CONSISTS OF 138 TOTAL SINGLE-

STORY STYLE UNITS WITH FOUR OR SIX UNITS PER STRUCTURE. THE PROJECT IS

TO BE LOCATED ON 22.5 ACRES AT MCKAIG ROAD AND STATE ROUTE 718.


Dog Reunited with Family

A DARKE COUNTY FAMILY WAS REUNITED WITH THEIR DOG DOLLY NEARLY A

WEEK AFTER SHE RAN AWAY AFTER FIREWORKS WENT OFF JULY 4 IN

GREENVILLE. AFTER THEIR DOG RAN OFF, FAMILY MEMBERS TRIED, BUT FAILED

TO FIND HER. SIX DAYS LATER, SOMEONE HAD FOUND DOLLY WHERE THE

FAMILY LOST HER TRAIL -- BEHIND THE SHERWIN WILLIAMS

STORE. ACCORDING TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF GREATER DAYTON, JULY

FOURTH IS THE BIGGEST DAY EACH YEAR FOR PETS TO RUNAWAY.
