Tipp City Schools Planning for Upcoming Semester

TIPP CITY SCHOOLS IS SEEKING INPUT FROM PARENTS, STUDENTS AND STAFF

ON PLANS FOR THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR WITH QUESTIONS, INCLUDING

LEARNING MODELS, USE OF MASKS AND OTHER ISSUES RAISED BY COVID-19. A

DISTRICT SPOKESPERSON SAYS IT’S HOPED THE SURVEY WILL HELP GUIDE

DECISIONS IN DESIGNING SAFE AND PRACTICAL BACK TO SCHOOL RETURN

OPTIONS. THE SURVEY WILL BE AVAILABLE UNTIL JULY 15 ON THE DISTRICT

WEBSITE.


Greenville Fire Under Investigation

THE CAUSE OF A FIRE NORTHWEST OF GREENVILLE SUNDAY AFTERNOON

REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE BLAZE WAS IN A COMBINATION

GARAGE AND WORKSHOP ALONG STATE ROUTE 49 AND STORED A VARIETY OF

VINTAGE COLLECTABLES, INCLUDING A 1968 AUTOMOBILE. FIRST CREWS TO

ARRIVE FOUND HEAVY SMOKE AND FLAMES SHOOTING FROM THE ROOF

AREA...THERE WERE NO INJURIES.


Brukner Offers New Program

BRUKNER NATURE CENTER IS OFFERING A PROGRAM CALLED WHERE THE

WILD THINGS ARE FOR CHILDREN ENTERING KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE

FIVE ON JULY 24 FROM 7-10 P.M. THE PROGRAM WILL LOOK AT OHIO WILDLIFE

ACTIVITY DURING TWILIGHT, DAWN AND DUSK. A FIREFLY COUNT FOR A

CITIZEN SCIENCE PROJECT ALSO IS PLANNED. THE COST IS $20 FOR BRUKNER

NATURE CENTER MEMBERS AND $30 FOR NON-MEMBERS. TO REGISTER, EMAIL

Miami County Succeeding Post-COVID

ACCORDING TO MIAMI COUNTY AUDITOR, MATT GEARHADT, SO FAR THE

COUNTY’S FINANCES ARE WEATHERING THINGS WELL DURING THE COVID-19

PANDEMIC. THAT’S WHAT MIAMI COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HEARD

RECENTLY DURING THE ANNUAL COUNTY TAX BUDGET HEARING. COMMISSION

PRESIDENT JACK EVANS EXPLAINED THE TAX BUDGET IS THE FIRST STEP IN THE

ANNUAL BUDGET PROCESS. IT WILL BE FOLLOWED LATER IN THE YEAR BY

ADDED BUDGET DISCUSSIONS BEFORE COMMISSIONERS APPROVE SPENDING

FOR 2021.


Parking Program Underway

A TWO-PART PILOT PARKING PROGRAM IS UNDERWAY IN TROY. BEING

TESTED IS REVERSE-ANGLE-PARKING. REVERSE-ANGLE PARKING REQUIRES THE

DRIVER TO BACK IN TOWARD THE CURB. THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF

TRANSPORTATION SAYS IT PROMOTES BETTER VISIBILITY FOR MOTORISTS AND

REMOVES THE DIFFICULTY OF BACKING INTO MOVING TRAFFIC. THE FIRST TEST

AREA, NOW UNDERWAY, IS ALONG NORTH SHORT STREET. A SECOND TEST SITE

WILL BE LOCATED ALONG EAST MAIN STREET FROM THE PUBLIC SQUARE TO

MULBERRY STREET BEGINNING JULY 27. THE PARKING AREAS WILL BE IN PLACE

FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS THEN PUBLIC FEEDBACK WILL BE

REVIEWED BY CITY.


Pitsenbarger Inducted into Walk of Fame

PIQUA NATIVE AND MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT, WILLIAM PITSENBARGER,

WILL BE INDUCTED POSTUMOUSLY INTO THE DAYTON REGION’S WALK OF

FAME THIS YEAR. PITSENBARGER LOST HIS LIFE DURING HERIOIC EFFORTS

DURING A BATTLE IN THE VIETNAM WAR IN 1966. A MOVIE ABOUT

PITSENBARGER WAS RELEASED EARLIER THIS YEAR. BECAUSE OF THE COVID-19

PANDEMIC, THE INDUCTION CEREMONY ALONG WEST THIRD STREET IN

DAYTON HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL OCTOBER.


Troy Enacts Property Sale Guidelines

THE TROY CITY COUNCIL HAS ADOPTED POLICY GUIDELINES FOR THE SALE OF

SURPLUS PROPERTY FOLLOWING AN INVESTIGATION REQUESTED BY THE

MAYOR INTO HOW A BACKYARD BASKETBALL COURT ENDED UP BEING BUILT

ON ARCHER PARK LAND. A PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNER ASKED TO BUY THE

LAND WHERE THE COURT IS LOCATED AND COUNCIL EVENTUALLY APPROVED

THE SALE. TWO PARKS EMPLOYEES WERE DISCIPLINED FOR INVOLVEMENT IN

THE COURT BEING BUILT ON PUBLIC PROPERTY. ACCORDING TO PERSONNEL

FILES, ONE EMPLOYEE RECEIVED A ONE DAY SUSPENSION WHILE THE OTHER

RECEIVED A WARNING.


New Restaurant Opening in Piqua

THE GRAND OPENING OF PIQUA NEWEST RESTAURANT IS TOMORROW (JULY

8) AT THE MIAMI VALLEY CENTRE MALL. HANNAH’S SOUTHERN BISTRO, IS

OWNED AND OPERATED BY PIQUA NATIVE TOMMY McCOY. APPROXIMATELY

400 PEOPLE VISITED THE RESTAURANT DURING A SOFT-OPENING HELD LAST

WEEK.
